Our First Run to South Dakota

It's about time I got off my hiney and start posting something.
Future Raider Stadium
Tuesday the 1st we started a new chapter in our lives, this one is called, retirement. Scooting out of California wasn't too eventful, but the border did look nice from a different freeway, which is usually I-8 East. the day's drive was a whirlwind drive, we drove through three states (California, Nevada, and Arizona), and stopped in the fourth (Utah) for the night. For the Raider fans out there, keep the faith, your new stadium is on the way in Las Vegas. Most of our time in Las Vegas was spent in afternoon going home traffic. Country side in Arizona was phenomenal from the rolling hills to the gorge on the way to Utah.
Green River Morning
I got to enjoy this landscape while Carol drove through Arizona. The gorge looked like it was closing in on the drivers, while the construction cones helped that illusion. We made it to St. George, Utah without incident, and we arrived in Green River, Wyoming. Our start from Green River was cold for a Californian. We arrived in Green River in the afternoon, it was in the upper 50's. We got up in the morning and found heavy frost on the truck, why, the temperature dropped down into the lower 20's. If you are not a cowboy, you will be after
traveling though Wyoming. Most of the prairie is dedicated to cattle, and no, these are not cattle, they are Pronghorn Antelope. These antelope are everywhere. Even though cattle are fascinating, there are other notable things to see traveling across Wyoming.

One half of Rock
Other half of Rock
Independence Rock is said to be a point where settlers passed on their way to the west coast, via the Oregon Trail. There is a trail from the parking lot to the rock, which can be walked around. The rock is signed by passed travelers over the Oregon Trail. It's fun when you randomly meet people and get to talking, and learn you have something in common. We met a couple on the trail who were from Wisconsin. As we were talking, we found out they know quite a bit about San Diego area and Santee in specific. OK, break over, let's get back on the road.
Yes, there were more of these creatures. We continued driving, and look what we saw....

only 142 miles to go to sanctuary. On the way we stopped in Sturgis for lunch at the Knuckle Brewing Company. Carol had chicken wings with a spicy (which she didn't know) honey garlic sauce. I had a Buffalo Pizza Burger with onion rings. The burger had a half pound buffalo burger, pepperoni, mozzarella and provolone cheeses, bacon, and marinara sauce. Yes, we did wash them down with a couple of beers. Not that we are fed and watered we headed to the hotel in Rapid City. One thing I need to learn is the term "various speed" signs, they ranged from 35 to 75 mph. Woohoo, we made it to the hotel, and checked in.
