Wisconsin...Wisconsin

We finally made our way into Wisconsin... and the roads are starting to look familiar.

The first town we landed in was New Lisbon, Wisconsin, at the Riverside Campground, which also is the city park.

All the sites are grass, ours posed an issue that required a bit of engineering design. What you don't see is how uneven the site is. It was our luck that on the door side of the rig, one of the levelers was located over a large divot/hole in the grass. Have no fear, the engineering project was completed successfully.

This park was great for people that like to fish, and walk.

If you are thirsty enough you can stick your head in the lion's mouth for a shot of refreshing water.

Besides offering water to the thirsty, and the fisherman, they offer kayaks, life jackets, and fishing poles. This park is also  a short walk into town, maybe 1/2 a mile, across the dam.

While I was crossing over the dam I had to opportunity to see a group of geese with their goslings swimming from the island over to the opposite shore...
and this was only part of the group, the other portion was still on shore.

Once across the dam, one can visit a veterans memorial.

This is a fairly new memorial honoring the fallen veterans from all wars, and peace time. Each war had several stones with names of the fallen in action, and old age. There isn't much else in the area except a few stores and bars, and the hardware store.

It happened to be Memorial Day while we were there, so we walked across the street to the American Legion/Community Center for a ceremony honoring our fallen veterans.

Our next drive didn't take us too far from New Lisbon, to a town called Ixonia.

This campground was very small, but nice.

For a small campground, 10 sites, there was a lot to do around the park. It offered mini-golf, disc golf, play area, large pavilion, kayaks, and fishing. Most of the Rvers that come here have families, and are weekend campers. Surprisingly it was not a drunken party fest during the weekend.

During this stop over we drove into Menomonee Falls for our grandsons high school graduation. Have no fear, it was approximately 40 miles. Other than graduation, our hunt was on for more meat markets. From here we will head to another city park near Racine.

When we arrived the park was pretty filled, mainly due to an RV Adventure group of about 30 RVs. The group started their tour at Niagara Falls... to end in Chicago. The campground was only 6 miles from Racine.

This stop was an opportunity to experiment with a couple of recipe ideas. The first recipe is for carnivores, a meat lasagna. It consisted of ground beef, deli sliced chicken breast, parmesan and mozzarella cheeses, and an alfredo sauce. After making it several times, I don't
think the deli sliced chicken breast is necessary, but I may replace it with bacon. The second try I added ricotta cheese to my recipe. I made two so that our sons family could try.

Speaking of ricotta, we now dive into to the next recipe. This recipe called for cottage cheese and melted chocolate chips. I decided to use ricotta instead.

The original recipe was a 3 to 1 ration, cheese to melted chips, but I did not read it right, and did my recipe 1 to 1. This is pretty good tasting fudge, without all the sugar.

This park covers a large area, with three picnic areas, one of them has ball fields and a picnic pavilion. Both of the RV areas have bathrooms, and play areas for the children. We had the pleasant opportunity to keep our granddaughter for a couple of nights before returning her to her parents. Unfortunately we didn't do too much due to rain. We know she enjoys food, so we took her out to a family sports bar/grill. She had her usual chicken wings, Carol had a burger, and I had taco mac and cheese.

That RV group that was there when we arrived, stayed a couple of days, then left for Chicago area. Well... before we left, they arrived back at the campground. From here we head up to Sturgeon Bay.
