Leaving our new homebase, we headed to Kirkland AFB in Albuquerque. The drive was fun, since a headwind decided to kick up and try to blow us off the road, but we held steady. This trip was a first for both of us...
This is Carol behind the wheel... with the trailer attached. Traffic was light on highway 285, and she did outstanding the 30 or 40 miles she drove. The next goal after getting her comfortable behind the wheel, is getting her behind the wheel when there is a more traffic, including big trucks. One step at a time.Getting into the campground was a little trying. Garmin provided directions for entering the Eubank gate, which has stanchions in a serpentine pattern, not good for large rigs. We had to go to a different gate, then backtrack to the campground, through a variety of left and right turns.
The spaces are very spacious, and close to the commissary and exchange. We only spent a couple of days there, enough time for gas and hitting a meat market.
The weather continued to be an issue with the winds increasing. Some of the gusts hit around 40 MPH, and mostly head-winds. Our goal was to leave in the morning before the winds fired up again.
This is what our morning of departure looked like, what you don't see is the chilly temperature and blowing winds.
From Kirkland AFB we are heading up to Raton, NM.
